Following the successful Car Club conference in June 2008, where Lambeth officers met with car club operators, car plus charity, TFL to discuss who Car Clubs in Lambeth could be taken to the next following the trebling of membership in the past year.

Several companies operate across London, Lambeth has four, Car Plus is an overarching organisation providing a single point of contact for car club provision.

26 recommendations came out of the seminar which council officers are currently developing into an action plan. Areas explored included expanding provision of car club bays to housing estates, increasing the speed at which car club bays are designated and parking provision.

Please back a petition on the Number 10 website calling for a change in the law over the sale of knives to the under 18s. A recent investigation in Lambeth showed that 11 out of 23 shops who were anonymously tested sold knives to the under 18s. This sort of reckless behaviour only increases the chances of more stabbings and violence on our streets. The proposed change will tighten up the laws over selling of knives so fewer shops escape prosecution if they are caught selling to under 18s.

Prior to determining this application, the licensing authority may accept written representations from Responsible Authorities and Interested Parties on the likely effect of the grant of this application in relation to the licensing objectives, which are:

·         Preventing crime and disorder;

·         Public safety;

·         Preventing public nuisance; and

·         Protecting children from harm.

Representations will be disregarded if they are deemed to be vexatious, frivolous, or irrelevant, or if they are received later than the 11th September 2008          

If a valid representation (or more than one) is received and is not withdrawn, this application will be referred to a hearing of the Licensing Sub-Committee for determination. If no representations are received, the application will ordinarily be determined by the relevant Licensing Officer.
