Dear Councillors
I am writing to inform you that Tarmac Ltd National Contracting, the contractor appointed to refurbish the Wandsworth Rd two years ago will be undertaking remedial works as part of the first year contractual maintenance programme addressing all defects.. These works include drainage issues at various locations, lining of the road surface ( white and yellow lines) and anti skid surfacing ( on approaches to two signal crossings, by Courland St and in Thessaly Rd) where such surface dressing have failed. We have been working with them for the past few weeks to plan the works during the month of August when traffic level is lower, thus minimising disruption. There will be road closures mainly at night for resurfacing, i.e where there are defects. Silverthorne Rd will also be closed for such works and traffic using this route to access Wandsworth Rd will be diverted to Queenstown Rd where they can turn left onto Wansworth Rd. North St will not be affected. There will also be bus stop closures and these have been discussed with Transport for London Buses. The remedial programme includes localised work areas during both day and night. We will have to suspend some parking bays in the vicinity of the local shops to address the localised drainage issues. It is envisaged that works in the localised areas will not take more than 2 days but could extend to 3 subject to weather and other issues. It is anticipated that all works could be completed by the end of August. I will be issuing a letter to all businesses in the area to inform them of the works planed.
For your information, additional investment
We were successful in bidding for additional monies from URBAN II programme and we have received a sum of money( £75k) to complete the lighting improvement project along the section of Wandsworth Rd between Brayburne Ave and Cedars Rd, the theme of lighting will continue to complete the entire road. You may have noticed that more trees have been planted along Wandsworth Rd as the request of the community when we conducted the satisfaction survey. The entrance of Larkhall Park has been replanted and I have an agreement with Parks dept to have a maintenance regime year on year to keep the entrance looking colourful during spring and summer. You may also have noticed that the rail bridge by Wandsworth Rd rail station has been refurbished using funding from another programme.
When the lighting scheme has been completed I will aim to seek monies through various sources to complete the footway refurbishment leading to Cedars Rd to complete the programme of investment. Hopefully I can do some of the footway works this financial year followed by the rest during the course of next financial year. I will do my best to have a regime of maintenance to ensure that the entire road is not neglected.
Regards
