Notice for Lambeth council
Introduction
In December 2006 we consulted you about our proposals to introduce a raised table at the junction of The Chase and Clapham Common North Side, and also a raised zebra crossing on Clapham Common North Side near the junction with Long Road. The results of the consultation and comments are shown below:
· 617 consultation documents were sent out and 59 responses received giving a response rate of 10%.
Raised table at the junction of The Chase and Clapham Common North Side
· 70% of those who responded were in favour of the raised table, 20% were against and 10% had no opinion.
· Those in favour of the raised table provided no comments.
· Those against the raised table feel it is an unnecessary measure. There were also concerns that the widened footpath would remove parking space.
Zebra crossing on Clapham Common North Side near the junction with Long Road
· 80% of residents were in favour of the zebra crossing, 19% were against and 1% had no opinion.
· Those in favour feel a zebra crossing is necessary as the road is very dangerous.
· Those against the zebra crossing fear it could cause tailbacks into Long Road. There were also concerns that the proposed zebra crossing is too close to Long Road.
What happens next?
Based on the majority of responses we have received, we have decided to implement the raised table at the junction of The Chase and Clapham Common North Side. Works will commence in late July, early August 2008. It will be necessary for access to and from The Chase at this junction to be closed whilst the works are taking place, however we will send you details of how the works could affect you closer to the time of works starting.
The proposed zebra crossing on Clapham Common North Side near the junction with Long Road is pending further safety assessments. We will keep you up to date with progress.
