Funding has been identified for a design study to revive the ‘Clapham Gateways project’ which was shelved in 2002 when Lib Dems and Conservatives took control of the council.
The funding will help develop a vision for Clapham Old Town, Clapham Common Station Island and The Pavement that joins them. A bid to develop this ‘area-based scheme’ has been placed with Transport for London and if successful this will result in the development of conceptual and detailed designs with implementation possible in 2011.
The project aims to radically improve the quality of Clapham’s public space. Your local Labour councillors have been working long and hard with officers to put the focus back on this neglected project and bring it back to life following much early work with the town centre board and local people.
Keep logging in to hear if the bid is successful and how you would be able to help us make our neighbourhood even more special than it is already.
